Henry the Dog with no Tail by Kate Feiffer tells the story of poor Henry. All his friends have tails but he doesn't. So what does Henry do but try to create one. In the end, Henry learns an important lesson about himself. This is a cute picture book that deals not only with a life lesson but also of dogs which children (and adults) always seem to love!

Ever wondered what a typical day is like for an 8 year old girl in Ghana? How about a 5 year old in boy in Brazil?

Each film in the Families of the World series focuses on a different country and shows what daily life is like for two children from different families in that country. The films are narrated by children and everything is shown from the kids' perspective - you'll learn what it's like to go to school in another country, what kind of games kids like to play, and what kind of chores they do to help their families. Watch and compare the lives of kids around the world to your own - you may even want to make your own film showing what it's like to be a kid where you live!

In The Greatest Game Ever Played, based on the true story of the 1913 U.S. Open golf championship, we meet young Francis Ouimet, a boy from a working class family in Massachusetts. Francis dreams of playing golf, but, as it is a game reserved for the upper class, he contents himself with working as a caddy until he unexpectedly given a chance to compete as an amateur. Against all odds, but with the encouragement of his mother and a loud-mouthed 10-year old caddy, Ouimet goes up against the world's greatest player, and Francis's idol, Harry Vardon.

Exciting, moving, and funny, The Greatest Game Ever Played will definitely appeal to golf lovers and also those who enjoy inspiring underdog sports movies like Miracle and Remember the Titans.

About a Book - Wolf Brother

Wolf Brother, the first book in the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness Series, is part wilderness survival story, part adventure, part fantasy. Torak lives in a prehistoric forest some 6,000 years ago, and his father (Fa) has just been killed by a bear posessed by an evil demon spirit who, if not stopped, will destroy the entire forest. Before Fa dies, Torak swears an oath to his father, which begins his journey to learn of his very unusual destiny. D4D Encore April 5 10-Noon

Welcome spring with the "GROW A READER" family reading program! We won't miss the winter cold & snow, but we will miss our Saturdays with families! Once again we had a great winter of Day 4 Donuts, with lots of families visiting the library on Saturday mornings. Thanks to all of our great patrons for making this such a rewarding program! We would also like to thank Georgi, who volunteered her time almost every Saturday & really helped things go smoothly. And a huge THANK YOU to Blue Max Coffee, for once again providing coffee and scones. As soon as the "Thank You" creation, which many children contributed to, is finished, we'll post a photo of it here and take it to Blue Max.

We will be hosting an encore D4D on April 5 from 10-Noon to kick off our Spring Family Reading program, "Grow a Reader." Come join us in a seed planting project - more information coming soon!

Tuesday's Movie

If you're looking for a good Shakespeare adaptation for kids, check out Shakespeare 4Kidz' versions of the plays Macbeth and A Midsummer Night's Dream. The productions remain true to the original storylines, but include rocking musical numbers and adapted language.

These are filmed versions of play productions, so they have the feel of watching a play on the tv. Recommended for older grade school kids and teens.

If you like animated movies and really weird and wacky humor, "Teacher's Pet" might be just right for you. Leonard is a fourth-grade boy and Spot is his faithful dog, but Spot longs for something more. He wants to go to school! He wants to learn! He wants to be a real boy! Wearing a pair of glasses and a beanie cap, Spot enters Leonard's classroom as Scott Lead-Ready II and quickly becomes the teacher's pet.

On the last day of school, just when Leonard and Scott/Spot are getting excited to enjoy their summer off together, Leonard learns he is traveling with his mother to sunny Florida - and NO DOGS ALLOWED. Spot is heartbroken. Then he hears about Dr. Ivan Krank, the mad scientist who can turn animals into humans, and who lives in - where else? Florida! So, "disguised" as Scott Lead-Ready II, Spot hitches a ride with Leonard and his mom, and they are all in for the goofiest adventure you ever saw.

The slapstick comedy and crazy happenings will totally appeal to kids - but don't worry, the parents will be laughing out loud, too.
